President’s Report Sep 2024

Precarious. Until recently we would say that we were precariously on track to delivering the battery according to our contract schedule. At this point, we can just say that delivery is precarious!

The main blocker right is obtaining insurance. Understandably, we need an insurance policy to cover the operation of the battery and the potential impact of any unfortunate events. It seems that there are no insurance companies prepared to offer this service to a community group. Commercial companies and even local governments that hold portfolios of assets, including energy equipment such as batteries, can obtain insurance but not us. It is confounding that, for all the hurdles we have had to negotiate, this relatively prosaic issue is currently blocking us from moving forward.

We hope to report in a few weeks that we are back to being precariously on track, but first we have to find a way past this roadblock.
