President’s Report Oct-Nov 2024

Do you remember the board game Snakes and Ladders? Laura Cacho and I delivered our presentation, Community Energy - It Shouldn’t Be This Hard, to a packed room at the All Energy conference in October. We made the theme for our presentation Snakes and Ladders. Our game board has far more snakes that make you slip back in progress instead of ladders that let you skip steps.

There were lots of questions afterwards and an interview with a journalist, Anne Delany, for her news blog, one step off the grid. Anne picked up the insurance issue and highlighted it in an article that also featured our Snakes and Ladders board. You can read it here. By the way, she hasn’t quite got all the facts 100% correct about approvals from Council and Jemena, but let’s not let that get in the way of a good story.

So where are we at right now? We are currently negotiating with a retail energy company to become our partner to deliver services to subscribers. The company would own the battery funded by the grant we received and be responsible for insuring the battery. There are many things to resolve for this approach to be successful. Come along to the members’ meeting on Monday, 25 November for an update on our progress and a presentation of Snakes and Ladders.
